I asked my wife where she would go. My wife made various speculations. A diner? Starbucks? She didn’t have a cell phone, so we couldn’t call her. I checked the parking lot and her car was gone. When I got back, my wife told me that she’d left to go back to Florida. I was like, no, that’s unlikely. Then my wife opened the closet doors and said, “She would not have taken her luggage to the diner or Starbucks.” Sure enough, her luggage was gone also.
My mother-in-law came to visit us for an extended stay. I cannot now recall if she was supposed to stay for a week or a month. The story is more shocking if I tell you that we were in New Jersey and she drove up from her home in Florida. However, in retrospect, I’m glad that she also visited several other family members in New York before visiting us. We were to be her last stopover before returning home.
