Well the only conclusion to be drawn is that Nadal and Novak especially have been playing in the post peak of Federer. Nadal is a great player, and burst on to the scene big time in 2005, almost beating Federer in Miami, then beating him in the French before securing his first slam win. That Nadal and Novak are weak era players, only winning slams during Federer’s modest decline. What else is there about Federer that makes him great? Federer is not finished yet.
And he was not alone. This sort of meanness of spirit and selfishness, driven sponsors and fans away. He has more variety, more creativity, and has more shots in his toolkit than anyone else. And also, he loves the game. It is not surprise that he has won so much with that personality and attitude. By then Rafa and Novak will also be either retired or close to retiring, and in Rafa’s case, I think retired. But if he was to incur a serious injury in the morning, he would be satisfied with his career.
