The older one, I’ve spoken of him before; he’s a rock. That’s probably because, being most of a decade older than me, he’s dealt with all of it before. Good drinking buddy, even if I’m a bit of a lightweight, and highly supportive. Logical thinker, often logical enough to help me think when I’m muddied up and confused. The younger one, she’s either cheerful, hyper, or hilarious; gets into the weirdest situations and scrapes. I can be incredibly down, and if I give her a call, I’ll be instantly distracted by something going on in the background, also cheered up. The number of times this has happened is quite a fair bit. I’m also able to help with her problems, which tend to be simplistic, which is cheering, unlike with other, less close friends, who have problems which tie into the greater economy. Both of them are super accepting, both of them are good friends with each other as well, which makes it easy to organize social things.

These two nations, thousands of miles away, have a both fought bloody wars against one another and stood besides each other in battle. The US owes far more to Britain than we’ve ever cared to admit, and the US has worked since WWII to repay those debts. Britain colonized us. The early American settlers were largely English, along with Scottish, Irish, and a host of other European immigrants. When we were just colonists, they supplied us and protected us. We rebelled eventually, and won. We proceeded to fight another war against them in 1812, which largely ended in a stalemate. Since then, our relationship has only improved. Both the US and the UK today enjoy an incredible relationship. Both nations recognize the relationship as their ‘most important.’ Together they have shared military conflicts, a common language, a common religion, a common set of laws and morals, and a common history.
